After Bariatric Surgery: The Importance of Taking Your Medications as Prescribed!


Taking medications just because you have a certain symptom, doesn’t mean that you can use them for the period and amount you wish for. Taking your medications correctly involves factors such as getting prescriptions filled, remembering to take medication on time, and understanding the indications.

Not taking your medications as prescribed can interfere with the ability to treat conditions and diseases, leading to greater complications from the illness and a lower quality of life for the patient. Taking your medications as your doctor prescribed it is crucial, especially when you had a major surgery since this will improve the process of healing and will also help you experience a safe and faster recovery.

Bariatric Surgery with Long Term WLS: Take-home medication (Medical prescription)


A medical prescription to take back home will be provided after bariatric surgery with Long Term WLS, those medications are not included in the price of the surgical package. The whole medication package cost is $150.00 USD, which includes all the medications prescribed by the doctor to continue with the after care of your weight loss surgery:
  • Vitamin B-12
  • Ciprofloxacina (Antibiotic)
  • Omeprazol (Anti-acid)
  • Elicuis (Blood thinner)
  • Ketorolaco (Pain Killer)
  • Ondansetron (Nausea)
  • Antiseptic (Spray)
Note: The patient will be provided with a prescription the day of his/her release from the Hospital, that can be filled with us (at the health center’s pharmacy) or any local pharmacy. There will be no problem at the moment of entry to the United States when crossing with both medication and the doctor’s prescription.

RECOMMENDED “SOFT FOODS” – POST BARIATRIC SURGERY DIET

Soft and blended food (3rd Phase)   If you had weight loss surgery and you just passed without any problem or discomfort the 1st phase (Clear liquids) and 2nd phase (Liquids), you may be ready to incorporate pureed, soft and blended food into your daily diet. The soft foods phase is followed 20 days post surgery.  The soft food stage must be initiated with “baby food texture” choices; foods that can be easily crushed with a fork or mixed to a ‘slurry’ with almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk or water (Avoid the daily consumption of dairy products). You may stay on this phase for as little as 10 days or for 2-3 weeks, once you feel signs of satisfaction on your stomach you can gradually advance into thicker textures.
